Camping is a lot of fun all year round, but most campers agree that their favourite pastime is a lot more fun when they and their belongings remain clean and dry, no matter what the weather. For this to be the case, it is important to invest in one or two good quality tent groundsheets to protect your tent and your belongings.

Groundsheets for camping can vary in price from around £12 up to £50 and are used to provide a strong and waterproof layer between the ground and the inside of the tent, so that campers and their belongings do not get wet or muddy while they are camping.

Sewn-in sheets usually extend around six inches up the walls of the tent to avoid water seeping under the side walls. Double-skin tents can have a groundsheet sewn into the inner tent, but it can be recommended to purchase a separate flat sheet for the living area. Extra sheets can also be extremely useful for use inside the porch of an igloo-style tent, for people to leave their shoes outside without them getting wet and also for extra barbeque-areas outside the tent itself.

In addition to this, it might be advisable to use an extra groundsheet underneath the built-in one attached to the tent, particularly if you are camping on rough terrain. This extra groundsheet is often called a groundsheet protector or a footprint, as it is cheaper to replace separate tent groundsheets than those attached to the interior of a tent.
