Sleeping Bag Liners
It is generally considered to be a good idea to have a liner for your sleeping bag as part of your kit if you camp on a regular basis as they perform a number of useful functions. The conditions in which you will be camping and your budget will dictate your choice of liner. As it is such a worthwhile investment it is probably best to go for the best you can afford. They will keep your sleeping bag cleaner, meaning washing is reduced, which can also reduce the bag's overall performance. The extra material can add warmth and insulation and they can even be used as alternative to a sleeping bag if sleeping in very warm conditions. Overall a dark coloured lining will absorb heat better and will help the sun dry you bag quicker if it does get wet. The most common liners are cotton, which is the cheapest option and they provide a good level of comfort, plus a degree or two of warmth. A silk sleeping bag liner is much lighter and packs down to a very small size, but can be a bit more expensive. A fleece liner will add comfort and warmth and are ideal for very cold conditions as they can add up to 20 degrees of additional warmth. Microfibre liners are becoming increasingly popular as they provide a high level of heat retention, comfort and also pack down quite small. It is also possible to get liners with built in antibacterial agents and insect repellents.
