Pillows
Sleeping outside with nature can be a great experience and modern sleeping bags can often make it quite enjoyable. Yet for many there is a big problem when it comes to sleeping without a pillow. Considering the weather and weight requirements for travelling, a conventional pillow is not feasible to sleep with when camping. So to help, the camping pillow was invented. This ingenious little pillow is small and extremely portable, generally weighing in at only a few hundred grams. They are easily stuffed into a bag and often come with their own travel bag for increased packing capabilities. The size of a normal travel pillow is more or less as small as can be allowed without taking away the comfort of the pillow. There are two types of camping pillow. The first type is normally filled with a polyester or polycotton fabric. This is extremely flexible and can withstand high compression, allowing it to be packed in tight spaces. The second common type is the inflatable travel pillow. These, as the name suggests, are inflatable and thus provide a soft cushion of air to sleep on. Of course the greatest advantage of inflatable pillows is that when they are deflated they are essentially a flat sheet, taking up minimal space. Some of the more advanced inflatable pillows are self-inflating making it almost effortless to use. The most common brands selling pillows for this purpose today are Bestway, Gelert, Outwell and Trekmates. All make a small variety of the different types of pillows which are specialised for camping. Using one of their products will certainly remove the discomfort of sleeping outside without a pillow.
